RISE

I get there early…
…before the birds begin chirping,
…before the streetlamps extinguish
…before the park maintenance arrives.
…before anyone one else.
I walk, starting westbound, counter-clockwise,
and it begins. Her ascent is gradual.
A wisp, a glow, slow and steady
until it’s ready to burst upward.
Climbing in calculated steps,
peeking over the horizon,
through the clouds,
up over the tree tops.
As I navigate the far turn,
I am greeted as her rise is completed.
The sun welcomes me to a brand new day.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
